Запоро́жец (в оригинальном написании «Запорожець») — марка советских и украинских легковых автомобилей особо малого класса, выпускавшихся Запорожским заводом «Коммунар» (позже Запорожский автомобильный завод, входивший в ПО «АвтоЗАЗ») в 1960—1994 годах.
Отчасти из-за непривычной для большинства населения заднемоторной компоновки, малогабаритности и невысокого социального статуса марки, а также огрехов производства автомобили ЗАЗ довольно часто были объектом шуток и анекдотов среди автомобилистов. Так, ЗАЗ-965 был прозван «горбатым» за характерную форму капота, ЗАЗ-966 — «ушастым» за характерную форму боковых воздухозаборников системы охлаждения, а ЗАЗ-968М — «мыльницей» за безликий и устаревший дизайн.

В данный момент проходит автопробег Украина – Польша – Германия. Все участники пробега – автомобили марки “Запорожец”. Честно говоря, редко можно увидеть столько Запорожцев рядом :)
Кстати, это уже не первое мероприятие с участием Запорожцев в LC. Давненько помню были кольцевые гонки на горбатых, позже конкурс тюнинга и выставка, опять таки горбатых...

The company established in 1960 as ZAZ (Zaporozhskiy avtomobil'nyi zavod) was to produce the copy of Fiat 600—a car for the ordinary people. From 1975 to 2002, the factory was a part of AvtoZAZ holding, which was transformed into joint-stock company in 1990s.
The models named "Zaporozhets" (Russian: Запорожец) were powered by an air-cooled rear mounted V4 engine made by MeMZ (based in neighboring Melitopol'). The body of earlier models 965 was similar to the Fiat 600 [later it achieved a people's nickname of “humpbacked”, regarding the body form – add. shaihkritzer]. The redesigned 966 looked more like a NSU Prinz. Despite low reliability and prestige of those cars, they have shown an unbeaten accessibility and popularity among Soviets, becoming the "car for pensioners and intellectuals".

At the moment the Ukraine – Poland – Germany motor rally is in progress. All race contestants are the ZAZ old cars. To be honest it's hard to see so much Zaporozhetses together :)
BTW that isn't the first event with ZAZ cars here at LC. I can remember some circuit races on Humpbacked ones, later the tuning contest and an exhibition, again of the Humpbacks...
